Welcome to the Halifax Drum School

We offer expert one to one drum tuition, beginners through to advanced, based in a custom built studio. The school is conveniently located in Luddenden Foot between Hebden Bridge and Halifax on the A646 Burnley road. (Free parking is available over the bridge behind the school.)

The Halifax Drum School also supplies expert drum lessons to pupils at Sowerby Bridge High School, and also to students at Calder High School.

Whether your aim is to play to a professional standard and have a career in the music industry, or to simply have a fun and rewarding hobby, The Halifax Drum School is dedicated to help each student realize his or her full potential.

LATEST NEWS

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported & played the ‘Concert For Kenny’. The event was organised to remember Kenny Hoyle, who was a dear friend of ours and also an amazing drummer. He sadly passed away in June this year, the concert was a huge success and raised over Ł1000 for cancer charities.

Student Blair Murray has joined 13 lights. He has also joined local band The Mccarrons.

Student Andrew Morley played Chris Mcparland’s annual guitar concert, and was reported to have played with great professionalism- well done!

After talks with Dom Famularo, Martin & The Halifax Drum School have been recommended For The Vic Firth Education program. This is great news for the school, and we will keep you posted on how that develops.

We would like to welcome James Newsome, the latest tutor to join the fold. James is a great new talent, who has recently recorded for Sony!! James’ has studied under Martin for over 4 years and has completed his diploma at The ACM in Guilford. James will be teaching @ The Halifax Drum School, as well as continuing his session work career. Good to have you on board James!

We have moved! We've left the old premises at Luddendenfoot and moved on to our new studio near Friendly, just 5 minutes up the road! We are still very easy to get to, still just off the main A646 between Halifax and Hebden Bridge, full directions/parking instructions can be given upon booking.

Martin has just agreed a European Artists endorsement deal with MAPEX! This is great news for the school, as it means we’ll soon be welcoming brand new Mapex kits to our teaching studios. If you’re not already learning with us, now’s a great time to book your 1st lesson….

Martin has joined new band ‘Folks’ who are signed to Verve Records in New York. They’ve an upcoming gig at ‘Night & Day’, Manchester-26th June –lend them your support & check out a great band in the making….. Martin is also working with Glen Diani (formerly of One Minute Silence) on his new album, guitar virtuoso Graham Young is rumoured to be involved-we’ll keep you posted on what promises to be an awesome project …..Martin is continuing to work with the brilliant ‘Danko’ whose next gig is at ‘The Roadhouse’ Manchester, 13th June, come along- you’ll not be disappointed, for a taster check out their My Space page www.myspace.com/dankoband......
Finally for Martin’s news, he recently played Manchester Academy with The Voltz supporting ‘We Are Scientists’-an incredible gig, The Voltz stormed it!!!

Ady Hoyle’s band The Black Bloc, will play Glastonbury this year in the Shangri–la area of the festival on the 27th June. The band have an amazing summer head, with gigs a plenty-check their dates out at www.myspace.com/theblackbloc and go see them!

Halifax Drum School student Chris Smith is now playing with The Steals, who play the Wychwood festival on 1st June at 12pm.

We’d like say a huge well done to Ayden Murphy, who has passed his grade 1 with merit. Great work Ayden!

Finally, a correction on the last newsletter, Harry Bryson actually achieved his grade 3 with a distinction-not grade 2. Harry impressed everyone with his professionalism and great technique at Chris McParland’s recent guitar concert. So congrats to Harry –we’re told you did a great job.

Halifax Drum School student James Newsome recently appeared in the TV advertising campaign for ‘Sony’. You may have seen the ad aired in the last few months, incorporating a line of drummers, line of guitarists etc (it’s right clever) James is currently working hard down at ACM, well done James!

A huge well done to all of our students who have recently taken Rockschool exams, here follows a list of everyone who took them, with their grades.

Alex Hill:       Grade 8 - Merit
Harry Bryson: Grade 2 - Distinction
Max Bagley:   Grade 1 - Merit
Alex Carey:    Grade 5 – Merit

Student Dan Hudson has just passed his audition for the sought after jazz course at The Leeds College of Music, he is currently gigging with national touring covers band ‘Souled Out’  plus - word is he dep’t for one of Martin’s more ‘challenging’ bands-Graham Young’s Rockadile-& amazed everyone with his professionalism & ability-Nice work Dan!

Student Alex Carey has joined rock band 13lights. Catch him gigging on sat 8th of March U.K.Y  Club Queens Road, King Cross Halifax.

Further a field, our very own Jason Hope is playing with his band The Phubus at The Carling Academy, Islington on Sunday 17th Feb

We would like to introduce Adrian Hoyle, our latest addition to the Halifax Drum School teaching Staff. Adrian, a.k.a Ady, was Martin’s 1st ever student & has over 10 years exp playing as a professional drummer internationally.
